Where did gray hair come from? Turns out that they are correct all along -- new research suggests that increases in stress hormones decrease production of the pigments that color hair and leave to graying. Quite surprisingly, this process can be reversed. In some cases, reducing stress causes hair to regain its pigment. But, of course, graying is a natural part of the aging process. Those of us, who have naturally gone gray later in life, have little hope of getting our hair color back — except from hair dye. In my opinion, as a third generation cosmetologist, I believe in Dyeing the hair. With COVID-19 now coming to an end, many of my friends have gone completely Gray. I’ve thought of it for myself — I just can't, I love my red hair too much. I get many compliments on it. However, the friends who have Gray hair really wear it well. So -- make tracks to your favorite hairdresser, and color your hair. Look as young as possible. And -- Happy Memorial Day!

Summer is finally here! It may be hotter than Hades, however, we must be prepared. Please note that this is my Annual Pool/Beach Bag review and all you’ll need to make your summer "fun in the sun"!

Here are a few items to keep things going smooth.

1) Sunscreen is number one for protection from the sun. SPF 30 with limited exposure.

2) Hats are great sun protection. Some have sunscreen built in.

3) Water to stay hydrated throughout the day. A frozen water bottle will last the whole afternoon.

4) Sunglasses are a must ... eye protection and fashionable. I must own over 35 pairs!

5) Towels ... I need a few to stay comfortable.

6) Lip Sunscreen for added protection for those kissable lips!

7) A Cover up for or cool breezes.

8) Towelettes are handy to freshen up! A New product that’s out is “busy Beauty Showerless Body Wipes” Tried and true from me to you! Great after sun bathing for a quick clean feel.

9) Pack of tissues to wipe away whatever!

10) Hair brush/ comb to touch up and refresh the do!
11) Insect Repellent for the beach bums. I’ve yet to see a mosquito by the pool.

So, hope this review helps in enjoying a great summer. Now that Memorial Day is behind us, we look forward to June, July, and August sun and fun. So important to be prepared for lovely summer days. No stress, just lounging on your lawn chair for fun in the sun.

Everywhere I look it's Frosted and Glittering makeup! From lipstick to eye-shadow to Face powder. Here are some tried and true Frosted products!

I know it's always been around this Frost, however, more now than ever before. Starting with "LipSense" an amazing Lip Color that stays on and on until you have to remove it! Opal and Pearl are two lovely Frosty colors.

Shellac ... the nail color you cure professionally has come out with a divine color that glistens in the light, called "Safety Pin!"

I've seen Frosted and Glittering Eyeliner from "Pat McGrath Labs". The Gold and Bronze liners are out of this world. As soon as a batch is made ... it's sold out! All their products come packaged in a clear sided pouch with one side Gold and fi lled with Gold sequins. Hard to come by!

Charlotte Tilsbury is a wonderful make-up line. Very classy and a well made product. I bought a marvelous Frosty Powder "Skin Gliding Highlighter" that brings out the smoothness of any complexion. I'd almost say it’s an illusion type look! It defies fine lines. Amazing!

Rose Gold is a product from "tarte"... tarteist Pro ... a double sided eyeliner with one side a Glitter Rose Gold and the other side a Frosted Rose Gold!! Night and day!

jane iredale -- "Skin Care Make-up"... has out a Frosty eyeshadow/primer called Smooth Affair that I have in a creamy Lemon ... I just adore it. Smooth and easy to apply! Great for Brow Line.

Bobbi Brown has out an "Illuminating Powder" in Nude Finish ... works great over makeup or alone. Always apply with a brush!

So from experience, these are some of my fav brands and colors. So get in a Frosty mood and get Frosted this summer!

It all started during a trip to Miami. The friend we were visiting brought us to a "flea market."
It was all outdoors even the beauty salon and I could smell the odors so clearly.

Ahhhh, to smell all those wonderful familiar scents. It was a Black Salon only catering to black hair. There were braids and hot irons galore! The intricate scalp cuts were amazing. The whole experience was quite amazing. I could have stayed and stared all day!

Living in Boston my attention was brought to the girls and
their styles. I've admired silver braids worn up and down. I've
seen gorgeous braids twisted into glorious shapes.

Some gals do their own, however, many go to the Beauty Salon. It takes anywhere from two to ten hours to create these masterpieces. Hours at the Salon! Can you imagine?

So my Glamazons look around and admire Black Hair

How are all my Glamazons doing? Starting to feel dry and flaky? Well I have a few tips for you to look and feel better.

For your lips to feel moisturized and soft, find a couple of lip moisturizers to apply over lipstick or just plain.

For your body, please find an all purpose nourishment. No added paraffi ns or wax.
Some kind of cream that will absorb into your skin and soak in leaving a velvety touch.

For your hair, you need to spray a tiny bit of Olive Oil. Brush your hair well, shampoo and style as usual. No hot hair dryers please!

Your nails by now are exploding "a description" my husband uses often.

Cuticles are dry and need to be pushed back. Just use a bit of Olive Oil and use to push back cuticles. You'll also be nourishing your nails. Give it time and you'll see.

Your welcome for your beatification tips -- anytime.

Happy winter to all my colleagues -- love Mary

Nice to feel the cool, daily, breezes in the air. Bring out those cozy sweaters and jackets.

To feel your new skin…exfoliate with some olive oil and sea salt during your next shower!

You'll never believe how soft and supple your skin will feel. For your feet you can use "Lush," orange foot balm...
made with organic jojoba oil. Rub into your toe nails, cracked areas, and dry heels. Smooth as a baby you'll be!

All that pool and salt water must have done a number on your hair. So shampoo and condition with professionally sold "Olaplex." Also the company has a hair rebuilder which leaves hair soft, manageable, and easy to style. You'll never recognize your locks!

Get a coffee or tea to go and make a date with an old or new friend. Plan it so it's so somewhere in your neighborhood and enjoy.

Buy some healthy vegetables and go home to make an extraordinary soup. Buy some Dave's Killer Bread, toast and dunk!

So that’s it for today’s feel good, look good tips!

Since the 1990's the Pedicure service has consistently developed into a phenomenon. Shortening the nails and grooming the feet go as far back as the caveman. It was more a "private service" not performed in salons. Before the 1970s in the get my hair done every week era most salons didn't have pedicures available. So with nails becoming a licensed specialty, Pedicures were offered by salons. The nail salons of the '70s and '80s were on average "acrylic salons" and performed few natural services due to the low prices expected to pay. A salon opened in 1980 and it had a Pedicure chair. Mostly used as a coat rack!

By the 1990s the spa age reached its growth of adding in Pedicures on their menus. Offering the feet care desired by the clients. By the 2000s feet were no longer hidden away. They were being groomed to be seen by others with color and nail art.

The explosion of salon owners purchasing spa/Pedicure
chairs was unbelievable. In 1999 a manicurist came forward and wanted to be called a "Pedicurist". This gal saw there was money to be made and "foot spa" has become a common salon name for Pedicure salons.

So go out and get your tootsies done!

Wishing a happy Labor Day

Some people can remember when the Witch Hazel distillery opened to the public. Like great grandparents, great aunts and
great cousins!

Witch Hazel's principal producers for the past century, the E. E. Dickinson company and its offshoots located in Connecticut since Dickinson’s founding in the late 19th century for 150 years.

Now part of the American Distilling in East Hampton, Connecticut produces nearly all of the Witch Hazel used throughout the world — millions of gallons accounting for annual revenues dollar amount.

Used today the clear, fragrant, naturally astringent liquid is used to treat dozens of conditions and is included as an ingredient in hundreds of cosmetics and over-the-counter medication including shaving lotion, deodorant, headache remedies, hair rinses, sunburn cream and salves for cuts and insect bites. Also found in toothpastes and mouth wash.

Witch Hazel can remove excess oil from skin. It can also help to tighten pores, de-puff under eyes, tighten pores and relieve irritation.

Witch Hazel is having a renaissance in skincare products. Its ability to cleanse and clarify the skin is a grateful promise. Begun in the 19th century, it continues into the 21st, quietly putting Connecticut’s industrial savvy on proud display.

Well my Glamazons we've turned a corner! A few worth mentioning.

COVID is not long gone, however, we've learned to live with
it. Wearing a mask has seemed to help. I haven’t had a cold in almost 3 years. Staying home and being careful has helped. So happy my retirement came just a little before COVID hit us big time.

Also our weather forecast has been great! Sunshiny days and cool nights make for a big and beautiful smile.

Don’t forget your clothes you purchased just before COVID. Also pieces of jewelry you squirreled away that you couldn’t wear! Oh, and your make up that probably needs to be replaced. I replaced a lot of my make up last year, however, I need to replace some again after this winter. So check yours out and see what needs to be replaced.

So our Cabana will be opening soon and I’m already for it! All pool supplies bought and checked. You can do the same by getting ready for your summer adventures. Check your tanning aids. And don't forget your waterproof
make up.

So many wonderful hair products to make your locks summer ready. Make your appointment with your stylist to get you ready.

So my Glamazons … there it is!

Buona giornata and God bless the United States of America!

This generation thinks you need to wet shampoo your hair everyday. Not so true. Stripping your hair of its natural oils, design coloring, and keratin treatments is expensive. Consider dry shampooing! So what used to be a cleansing hair treatment in hospitals has become a quick beauty secret trick for an instant refresh.

A dry shampoo cleanses with oil absorbers such as starch and volumizes with silica and clay. Using a dry shampoo minimizes damage to your hair since you'll be using hot tools less often. Your color will fade less with minimum salon visits for touch-ups. Your style lasts longer and dry shampooing can puff up limp strands. Dry shampooing also leaves your hair with a fresh just -washed scent!

There are many different brands of dry shampoo. Some specialize in volumizing. Others are best for dark hair. Also portable purse size is convenient. My fav is still Pssssst! and LUSH has a powder form you sprinkle on, fluff through and brush out. So grab some ease of not wet shampooing everyday and try the fluff and go hair magic way!

Used for centuries to keep skin feeling hydrated and the body calm. Just a whiff of this magnifi cent scent will keep your senses focused and relaxed.

Lavender oil can also help with troubled skin such as acne. It penetrates your pores to help in regulating your skin’s oil production. It has a skin soothing nature that can also tame an itchy scalp. Also used for anxiety, depression, insomnia and pain.

Used as a holy herb in ancient times. High priests used it for purification rituals and healing.

Lavender was used in anointing the feet of Jesus by Mary Magdalene.

Imagine a bath filled with Lavender … known for it’s calming qualities, a shower gel or bath salts will put you in dreamland instantly.
Lavender is part of the mint family that’s a shrub. The flowering tops of the shrub are used in a distillation process that will produce Lavender oil. Used in many brands of essential oils, Lavender contains many benefi ts for calming nerves and sleep related problems.

Taking a different turn on beauty for the sake of humor, here are some beauty scenarios that may bring back a memory or two.

One gal decided to dye her hair and multitask by washing the dishes. Oops … the pizza cutter sliced through her thumb! Should have gone for stitches instead used a tourniquet from dish towel. Her hair came out great, however, there’s a scar to remind her to slow down!

The over archer decided to pluck her eyebrows. Plucking was too painful so she decided to use her razor. Yikes … shaving off half a brow it took a few months to grow back in. Not without shifting bangs!

Using black eyeliner at 14 years old was the ultimate. After a few hours of people staring and thinking I must look so cool, I took a look in the mirror and all the oil and sweat had spread the pigment so much that I looked like a baby Panda!

After a busy and exhausting trip, I emptied my cosmetic bag out on the counter.

I would have SWORN ON MY LIFE I grabbed my eye make up remover. It was nail polish remover! I flushed my eyeball for 5 minutes under running water until the pain subsided!

So, the moral of these stories is consider a professional to educate and demonstrate before attempting home skills. Or at least a bottle of nail polish remover with big letters!

Buona Giornata and God Bless the USA!

So there we were flipping channels on the tube and we noticed Chronicle was about to come on. They were featuring a segment on “Lobster.” Certainly peeked my interest.

In 2013, it all started with a move to Portland, Maine and biomedical undergraduate students Amber Boutiette and Patrick Breeding.

They launched a specialty skin care product for extra dry skin including psoriasis and eczema from Lobster! Apparently, Amber suffered from debilitating eczema on her face and eyelids and cheeks. Then in 2017, they worked on a prototype of a product soon to be called Marin’s Soothing Hydration Cream.

This cream is amazing. My dry, aging skin feels like new … and after just a couple of days!

Made with Lobster glycoprotein, which is a part of the Lobster’s circulatory fluid … a wasted byproduct of processing. Who would have thought?

It’s been a tedious and time-consuming process to develop such an innovative product.

However, thanks to Amber and Patrick’s diligence we can now enjoy soft, supple skin all over our bodes!

This Marin Cream is skin-hydrating, barrier-protection that’s Free from fragrance, parabens, and irritants. Made with Love.

So spread on some love with Marin! Find Marin on their website or Amazon.

There are so many negatives concerning COVID. However, I’ll tell you of one positive and delightful tale.

I never really liked visiting different salons for my hair care. I just almost never found good luck finding someone to do my hair the way I like. After 25 years living in Boston, on Newbury Street there was one salon I loved.

But their elevator broke and the stairs were steep and that was a problem for me.

So recently there was an ad for Roya … she does house calls to make your coif look special.

It was like a ray of sunshine when she walked in my door! A highly experienced cosmetologist who can service every need from cutting, coloring and keratin treatments. Believe me, I know!

My locks were happy when she blew dry my naturally frizzy, curly hair into a silky satin state of shine.

My husband needed a long overdue haircut and was nick named Beethoven for his length of locks! Roya did a great job just as he asked.

So if you need some Roya Home Beauty, call her at 774-285-9277.

Go out and have some fun!

I have a brilliant and most creative friend that I have invited as a guest columnist. The subject Aging Gracefully is well at hand. Enjoy!

Recently, my dear friend, Artist and Writer John De Vito, and I discussed the idea of celebrating growing older with grace and style. This inspired him to write the poem TO THE OLDER, WISER & MORE BEAUTIFUL YOU, which I now wish to share with all of you, dear reader. If you’d like to see some of John’s artwork, he is having an art show OSCAR DIVAS WITH A “SPLASH,” October 1st – 31st at GALLERY Z, 167 Market Street, Lowell, Mass. (978-692-5040). The show celebrates several great Academy Award-winning actresses.

Therefore, I feature one of the pieces from the show: Oscar Diva Sophia Loren in the film "TWO WOMEN" (1961). The legendary Ms. Loren is also featured in the poem below.

TO THE OLDER, WISER & MORE BEAUTIFUL YOU
Yes, We’re all Getting Older.
But, That’s Life, isn’t It True?
And besides, whatever else can We Do?
It doesn’t really matter how much
We Might Nip, Lift, Puff, or Tuck-It-All-Up.
The Reality is: With Growing Older, Baby,
We are All Stuck.
O, but don’t You See, That in The End,
It’s All in The Game?
So what really matters is how Well We Play
The Game without Shame.
So then, here’s some Advice, I Give You for Free.
And I Sincerely do Hope, It Helps You
The Way It has Me:
Look to Some Aging Role Model & Let Her Be
Your Guide;
Let her Show You The Way to Stay, Vital, Age
Beautifully, Gracefully & Above All Else, Wise.
Now doesn’t that Make Excellence Sense?
A Trio of Role Models I Think who can Point The Way
Are Three Legendary Actresses.
And All are Classy, Beautiful & Active
to This Very Day:
They’re - SOPHIA LOREN (Age 86),
CATHERINE DENEUVE (Age 77); HELEN
MIRREN (Age 76) - That’s Our Focus.
Clearly, what they all have in Common is,
Beauty, Talent & The Attainment of Tremendous Success.
Going beyond That, It’s Important to Say:
All Three are Europeans,
Deeply Connected to The History & Civility of
The Old World,
Which Means They’re Not So Obsessed with
Looking Forever like a Malibu- Beach-Bunny-Girl.
Yes, They have Grown Older, Stayed Beautiful,
Sexy & kept Making Movies all Along.
And each Woman in Her Own Way,
Has Remained Totally True to Herself &
Awesomely Strong.
While it is True, They’ve had Some “Work” Done,
You Get the Feeling that Most Skillful Work
Happened Not Out in Beverly Hills, but rather,
Under the Radiance of The European Sun.
For there in Europe,
It Seems Plastic Surgeons Look for Inspiration
From Classical- Art The Glory of Antiquity.
Instead of -like here in America-where The Ideal
seems to be a Formaldehyde Pickled Plastic Barbie.
And so, Before I Go, Allow Me to Say
That I Hope I’ve Given You Good Food for Thought,
Hopefully, To Make You Think, Make You Ponder,
To Face The Fiercest Storms &
Fear No Lightening or Thunder.
And so, on Those Nights, You Might Suddenly Rise
To Face The Real Fact That
You’re Growing Older. Please, Do Realize:
Yes, You’re Getting Older, but so what?
You can Still Keep It Classy, Beautiful, Vital, Sexy,
And Above All Else! — Fiercely & Fabulously Wise.
John De Vito

I always considered Face Primer to be a secret beauty tip! However, now I must share it with all my Glamazons! It was a marvelous discovery for my make-up chest. Several years ago when I or anyone I knew what Face Primer was I discovered it by accident. I was putting in my Avon order and decided to try this foundation for under your foundation. It was a hit with me! It created a smooth canvas for my foundation. It evened out my complexion minimizing my pores. It actually made the application of foundation easier to apply. My make-up lasted so much longer making my skin look velvety! Wow ... what a find!

There are many Face Primers on the market. I’ve tried many; however, I keep going back to the Avon brand. Hope they still make it. A tube lasts a long time. They come in clear, or a pink & coral shade. Creating a smooth canvas for foundation your Primer will work well in humid and warm weather. Helps make-up to adhere to skin, lasting longer, working as a shield between skincare and make-up. It’s almost like a gauze that you put on a camera lens. Like I said a velvety look!

There are also Primers for eyelashes, eyes, and lips. I’m also familiar with the Lip and Eyelash Primers which keeps lipstick on longer and enriches moisture in your lips. The Eyelash Primer thickens your lashes before applying your mascara. Oh but the job that your Face Primer will do is remarkable!

So go out and get your Face Primer on!

Happy Labor Day!

Buona Giornata and God Bless the USA!

Here we are with a special season of warmth and sun. So much Beauty to capture the special moments. Fresh air is less likely to transmit the pandemic.

We may have to wear masks again, however, there is so much to enjoy and celebrate this fantastic time of year! Summer will be ending soon ... so let’s get it on! The dog days of August with that blazing sun is a natural disinfectant.

I’ve been enjoying outdoors and our Cabana with pool life. Oh, how I’ve missed these fun days … grilling, lounging, tanning, and swimming. (I walk in the pool and fi nd it great exercise) The salt water pool is also a Beauty asset.

It’s been great reconnecting with my Cabanaland friends. All with same woes and discontentment of this pandemic! However, we must focus on the positive aspects of living our best life. The reconnection with people brings Beautiful smiles.

There are so many outdoor activities to do here ... And outdoor dining is all over, better and improved.

Jumping into a car, taxi, or Ride-share and get out of town. Safer outdoor activities than indoor. There are so many different and interesting places to discover. Or an old hang out you used to consider your stomping grounds! I’ve been thinking of Salisbury Beach. I spent so many summers there. Sometimes my parents with grandparents in tow would rent a cottage ... so much fun with the fam. Then my parents invested in an adorable trailer and we would park it at The Salisbury Reservation for almost the whole summer. The meals Mom put out there tasted the best ever. I think it was the healthy, salty, beach air.

As I got older, I would spend several days at a time with my cousin Marilyn whose family owned a beach cottage in Salisbury. Memories we all took for granted. These nights, I fall asleep with all the recollections of those days. The beach sun and the ocean water are really so good for your skin! My cousins also had an awesome outdoor shower!

No phones ... only the pay phone I would have to call my Mom and my boss ... oh, I’m staying an extra day!

Open windows with beautiful breezes. The smell of flowers blooming in the air is hypnotic. A Beautiful sense of reward abounds!

Go out and Relive those memories and capture Summer at its finest Beauty

Summer is finally here! It may be hotter than Hades; however, we must be prepared. Please note that this is my Annual Pool/ Beach Bag review and all you’ll need to make your summer “fun in the sun!”

7) A Cover up for after a full session of sun or cool breezes.

8) Towelettes are handy to freshen up! A New product that’s out is “busy Beauty Shower less Body Wipes” Tried and true from me to you! Great after sun bathing for a quick clean feel.

9) Pack of tissues to wipe away whatever!

(10) Hair brush/comb to touch up and refresh the do!

(11) Insect Repellent for the beach bums. I’ve yet to see a mosquito by the pool.

So, hope this review helps in enjoying a great summer.

Happy and safe July 4th to all my colleagues and fans of the Post Gazette! So important to be prepared for lovely summer days.

No stress, just lounging on your lawn chair for fun in the sun

Buona Giornata and God Bless the USA!

I was always a true Brunette. However, as soon as the grays started making their way in I knew I wanted to go Auburn. After all my Nana was a beautiful deep Auburn and I always loved her in that color. Being born into cosmetology was definitely a perk since our choice of hair color and hair style was endless! Looking the Pandemic in the eye I decided to go Red. It makes me feel empowered in a world that had a fading existence within the walls of conformity. So looking into the history of Redheads was quite interesting. Two percent of the world’s population are true Redheads. It’s an anomaly. The Redhead gene has a mutation. These variants are responsible for hair color, freckles, how sensitive you are to hot and cold, how much anesthesia you require (often more than average) and how you smell, which is sweet according to statistics.

Red hair was so rare that the Romans, Greeks, and Christians thought it was the mark of the devil. The variant for Red hair is more common in European populations. Just about 5 percent of Scottish and Irish people have Red hair ... just like our fav Ginger Scot Jamie Fraser from Outlander!

Artists grabbed attention with using Titian-haired women in their portraits. Elizabeth Siddal who was a stunning Redhead served as the muse for Dante Gabriel Rossetti, William Holden Hunt, and John Everette Millais. These certain Pre-Raphaelite artists would often paint Redheads in the nude or as temptresses.

According to 17th century pagans, redheads symbolized magnetism and mysticism. As quoted by Tobias Anthony, author of Ginger
Pride: A Redheaded History of the World.

Redheads are not going away. They are here to stay.

So go out and scout out some pretty Gingers today!

It will be 20 years this year that I lost my Mother. However, I always remember her teachings and philosophy.

Most importantly how to be polite and act like a lady. Be kind, gentle and always look ready for anything. She was a true force of nature on this one! No matter what was going on in her life she always dressed beautifully with her bouffant style hair done and makeup perfectly applied.

Her skincare routine was every night with the best creams that were sold. I would watch her at night while she massaged her complexion cream into her skin. I used to say that someday that will be me. She taught me to never skimp on Beauty Products and that you get what you pay for. Now I am forever reading the ingredients ... so important.

Always with her hair coiffed specifically to frame her face. The style barely changed through the years. She had a nice big dip in front ... sometimes with a blonde streak and the tops of her ears always covered. She was a true brunette. It was hard for me when the day came when she wanted to go natural. However, her hair grew out to be a stunning silver, white shade. With the right make up it was becoming on her.

She would always say "If MGM the movies won’t hire me, the comic strips will!"

She was full of quotations that made so much sense. "There is no tree that can’t be chopped down." Meaning that there isn't anybody who is mightier that can't be taken down. I've come across a few myself these days!

The best days I remember were playing "Ring Around A Rosy" as a kiddo with my friends! There she was in her pretty apron, holding hands with us and singing!

I was born on Christmas Day, so she always managed to decorate with red, blue, and yellow colors insisting my birthday was special and birthday colors should be used. The cake candle holders were different ballerinas performing a Sissonne movement!

No wonder we love ballet to this day.

Many wonderful memories of all my birthdays with the friends, grandparents, and neighbors that Mom would make so special.

So remember your Mother on Mother's Day and give her a call!

Buona Giornata and God Bless the USA!

New outfits have always rocked my world! There is just nothing like a new ensemble to make you feel beautiful! I adore maxi dresses, glittered hemmed skirts, and a blouse/top to match a lovely, long skirt.

Oh and the jewelry to match ... during COVID I have made this clothes and jewelry adventure into a hobby. When we can all go back to a seminormal I am looking forward to bringing my new fi nds to work its magic! Can’t beat a new clothes smell! (Except for a new car!)

My Mom and Nana loved to dress up. Furs, hats, scarf’s, diamonds, earrings, beautiful dresses, were a sacred part of their routine for special occasions. I’m sure I would consider myself a chip off the old block. My Nana’s Fox tails adorn my vanity chair in front of my vanity table. They bring back nostalgic memories. I inherited mink fur pieces that I adore from my Mom that I am looking forward to wearing again.

It all started with Easter. The new hat, patent leather shoes, the new dress and purse were just the beginning for the start of my love for clothes.

My Easter ensemble waits patiently now since it has been a year for its debut!

Recently a New Discovery to enhance a sleeveless wardrobe ... which I have plenty of are SLEEVEY WONDERS!

“I created SLEEVEY WONDERS because I love fashion, including sleeveless and strapless tops and dresses, but I didn’t love my
bare, flabby arms. Sleevey Wonders solves that problem, and so much more” says founder Ruthann Greenblat

These sleeves are a wonderful addition to your wardrobe, worn under your garment from casual to fancy dress! Extends your wardrobe seasonally. Great for travel.

What better time to relax in your bath and take care of your skin? A nice warm water temp with Epsom Salts should make for a relaxing time. Light your scented candles for some ambiance and you're good to go. Get out that pretty robe you’ve been saving and use it! After your soak, you may want to Exfoliate with a wash cloth. Just rub your skin that's been soaking and you will be able to see the skin slough right off! It’s amazing.

Dry off and apply a deep moisturizer all over damp, sloughed skin.

Now apply your Face Mask. Your complexion needs a treat. Indulge in an antioxidant age-fighting face mask. With just a few pantry staples including cocoa you can replenish moisture and firm skin. The honey which is a humectant will hydrate. Sour cream contains lactic acid which will soften and gently exfoliate. The egg white is a protein which will tighten skin.

"Mask-at Home Ingredients"

Use one tablespoon of each cocoa powder, honey, and sour cream.

Add one egg white. Mix in a bowl. Apply to clean complexion.

Let dry. Rinse.

Lightly towel dry.

There you go ... soft baby like skin that glows!

To all my Glamazons and my colleagues at the Post-Gazette, a very happy and loving Valentine's Day!

Buona Giornata and God Bless the USA!

I as well as all of you Glamazons are welcoming the New Year! Just don't get too excited. We are still wearing our masks well into 2021. And many of us aren't going to be able to get the vaccine until mid-year. Celebrations, parties, and large gatherings are far and few between. However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel for 2021 that this Pandemic will take its leave. We can only pray and look forward to a bright future.

Have any of you noticed that ads for lipstick are on the up? The only lipstick worth investing in these days is one that will not rub off into your mask. "Lip Ink" is one brand to look into. Mask proof and water proof.

Watch your make up ... eye make-up especially! If you haven’t used it, toss it for it can cause infection. Just purchase new and exciting mascara and shadows! Also foundation, if any kind of odor, trash it. Check creams etc. for dates and odor. The length of time not using your products can be hazardous to your health.

Time at home is Spa time. My life has always been busy. However, even before my retirement I have made time to smell the roses. I've spoken to many people these days that have praised some of the perks of this pandemic. One was that they were able to stay home and enjoy their solitude. Before COVID they were running around from place to place. Lunch plans to dinner plans. From museum date to theatre date.

Time for that leisurely bath or shower. There are so many scents and routines to choose from. Remember to exfoliate your skin and you'll be baby soft as a couch potato should be! My husband likes using a wash cloth, but I like my Moroccan mitt to scrub it all off; great for
circulation!

So as all of us march into the New Year, be kind to one another as well as yourself. Take care of your well-being. Live, laugh, and love every day!

Happy New Year!

Buona Giornata and God Bless the USA!

As they say "It's another miracle!" In ancient times since East Asian beauty rituals were performed, Rice Water and Rice Milk were used to eliminate dead skin and enhance hair. The antioxidant-rich ingredient was introduced by soaking Rice in water.

Many stories and anecdotal evidence from Korea, Japan and China state that Rice Water is good to strengthen hair. The benefits were remarkable.

A study found that vitamin B9 was found in Rice Water. The Rice Water when used would penetrate the hair and was found to strengthen hair and also improved hair’s elasticity.

I'm pretty sure the Rice Water was used after cleansing hair and then used as a final rinse. Probably acting as a detangle and conditioning treatment. On skin use a cotton pad and apply every day.

Can we make our own? Yes!

Rinse uncooked Rice

Soak in water for 30 Minutes

Drain water and use externally only.

To purchase products look for Rice Bran Extract or oil, or Rice Ferment or starch on the list of ingredients on label. Many over the counter beauty products contain Rice Water and Rice Milk.

Rice Water is also beneficial for treating dry skin, damaged hair, digestive upsets, eczema, acne, rashes and inflammation, also eye problems and sun damage protection. Use a spray water bottle before going out to sunbathe.

Rice Water also has anti-aging benefits, moisturizing by making skin supple and young.

Also claims to tighten skin and reduce wrinkles as Mother Nature comes around!

Avon even carries a Rice Water Bright Foaming cleanser for your face!

Well there you have it ... short and sweet!

Buona Giornata and God Bless the USA!
