Face Masks and Other Stuff 2021

Face Masks and Other Stuff 2021

Ciao bella,

What better time to relax in your bath and take care of your skin? A nice warm water temp with Epsom Salts should make for a relaxing time. Light your scented candles for some ambiance and you're good to go. Get out that pretty robe you’ve been saving and use it! After your soak, you may want to Exfoliate with a wash cloth. Just rub your skin that's been soaking and you will be able to see the skin slough right off! It’s amazing.

Dry off and apply a deep moisturizer all over damp, sloughed skin.

Now apply your Face Mask. Your complexion needs a treat. Indulge in an antioxidant age-fighting face mask. With just a few pantry staples including cocoa you can replenish moisture and firm skin. The honey which is a humectant will hydrate. Sour cream contains lactic acid which will soften and gently exfoliate. The egg white is a protein which will tighten skin.

"Mask-at Home Ingredients"

Use one tablespoon of each cocoa powder, honey, and sour cream.

Add one egg white. Mix in a bowl. Apply to clean complexion.

Let dry. Rinse.

Lightly towel dry.

There you go ... soft baby like skin that glows!

To all my Glamazons and my colleagues at the Post-Gazette, a very happy and loving Valentine's Day!

Buona Giornata and God Bless the USA!

Rice Water

Rice Water

Ciao bella,

As they say "It's another miracle!" In ancient times since East Asian beauty rituals were performed, Rice Water and Rice Milk were used to eliminate dead skin and enhance hair. The antioxidant-rich ingredient was introduced by soaking Rice in water.

Many stories and anecdotal evidence from Korea, Japan and China state that Rice Water is good to strengthen hair. The benefits were remarkable.

A study found that vitamin B9 was found in Rice Water. The Rice Water when used would penetrate the hair and was found to strengthen hair and also improved hair’s elasticity.

I'm pretty sure the Rice Water was used after cleansing hair and then used as a final rinse. Probably acting as a detangle and conditioning treatment. On skin use a cotton pad and apply every day.

Can we make our own? Yes!

  1. Rinse uncooked Rice
  2. Soak in water for 30 Minutes
  3. Drain water and use externally only.

To purchase products look for Rice Bran Extract or oil, or Rice Ferment or starch on the list of ingredients on label. Many over the counter beauty products contain Rice Water and Rice Milk.

Rice Water is also beneficial for treating dry skin, damaged hair, digestive upsets, eczema, acne, rashes and inflammation, also eye problems and sun damage protection. Use a spray water bottle before going out to sunbathe.

Rice Water also has anti-aging benefits, moisturizing by making skin supple and young.

Also claims to tighten skin and reduce wrinkles as Mother Nature comes around!

Avon even carries a Rice Water Bright Foaming cleanser for your face!

Well there you have it ... short and sweet!

Buona Giornata and God Bless the USA!

Scrub Away!

Scrub Away!

Ciao bella,

“Wishing All A Happy
4th of July”
I just adore that clean, scrubbed feeling after a treatment. You can have that too from the comfort of home. That's where we've been many days anyway. And I know some of us aren’t ready to go to the Spa. So here are some staple ingredients from your cupboard or easily enough to find for some home spun fun.

The scrubs here are to help dead skin cells clear the way to clean pores so anti-aging creams can penetrate to work their magic. The scrubs will brighten, clarify, smooth, soften, and aid in aging skin. Usually scrub at night to give skin a respite. So here goes:

These ingredients are best for face.

Jojoba Oil and Baking Soda ...

4 Tbsp of each to remove excess oil in the skin.

Gently use round circles to buff skin. Then rinse, using warm water.

To incorporate a lasting impression with this Scrub, use Lavender Oil for its calming properties and induce deep sleep. As a skin booster and astringent apply 2 Tsp of Lemon juice ... for oily skin and brightening. Rinse well.

Oatmeal and Plain Yogurt ...

4 Tbsp of each. Oatmeal is great for sensitive skin. The yogurt has lactic acid helping to dissolve dead skin.

Also use gentle round circles, then rinse with warm water.

End this Scrub with Rose Hip Oil, containing anti-aging properties with vitamins A and C. Also apply 2 Tsp of Turmeric to brighten and fight acne causing bacteria. Also rinse.

After towel drying skin, apply by massaging a fragrance free moisturizer which will be less irritating to freshly exfoliated skin.

Feel the softness and experience the suppleness of a baby's skin!

Stay tuned for Homemade Body Scrubs!

Buona Giornata and God Bless the USA!

Feed your Face with Pumpkin!

Feed your Face with Pumpkin!

Ciao bella,

It’s that time of the year again when it’s all about the Pumpkin. I’m sure you all had fun carving out those Halloween lanterns. This year the Frog Pond had us all carve a small pumpkin and place in the pond. What a sight to see ... hundreds of Jack O Lanterns, floating at sunset on our beloved Frog Pond!

Applied to your face did you know Pumpkin is great for it? It’s packed with vitamins and enzymes giving skin a radiant glow. As it sweeps away dead skin cells, skin is rejuvenated revealing a radiant complexion. Pumpkin also helps in lightening brown spots as well. Adding Brown Sugar is a strong exfoliant and moisturizer. What’s better than finding all these ingredients in your pantry?

Here are a few Make Your Own — Do It Yourself Pumpkin facial masks:

Mask 1) in a small bowl mix well together 2 1/2 tablespoons Pumpkin puree, 1 tablespoon raw or Manuka honey, & 1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon juice. Apply with fingertips to a clean, dry face. Let absorb for 10-20 minutes. Wash off mask completely with a cool washcloth. Only use once or twice a week. Finish with your normal skincare routine.

Mask 2) this is an anti-aging, exfoliating mask. Combine in a small bowl 1/4 cup organic Pumpkin purée, 2 Tablespoons plain yogurt, & 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Apply with fi ngertips, let sit for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with warm water and continue with your daily skincare routine. Following this mask with a few drops of jojoba oil is also healing.

Mask 3) this is a powerhouse of a mask! Mixing the healing properties of raw honey and turmeric is a wonderful and natural exfoliant. Together mix 1/2 teaspoon raw/Manuka, 1 tablespoon of organic Pumpkin purée and 1 teaspoon turmeric.

Turmeric is staining so apply to face with a spatula. Leave on for 10-15 minutes.

Rinse well with cool water and pat dry. May stain washcloth. (This mask is not for sensitive skin, test on wrist before use.) So my Glamazons ... I hope these beauty tips will put you in the mood for the season.

Buona Giornata and God Bless the USA!

Face Masks ... Once a Week!

Face Masks ... Once a Week!

Ciao bella,

I've always enjoyed a nice Face Mask. From Queen Helene (the green clay one) to a home made one made of whipped egg whites. The benefits are remarkable as long as you have the patience. I can even remember the Thanksgiving when my husband David, Dad and I were invited to a Thanksgiving feast for 40 people to a friend's castle in Ashland for the afternoon. I told the fellows we must all do a Blueberry Face Mask to feel and look great. We all laughed out loud with our blue colored faces! Our skin felt divine afterwards. Between the Blueberry Face Mask and all the laughter it was exhilarating!

There are many different kinds of Face Masks depending on skin type. Here are some tips to help you chose:

1) Clay -- is number one to help us reduce shine and for absorbing excess oil.

2) Green Tea Mask -- helps protect skin from pollutants, sun, and free radical damage.

3) Alpha Hydroxy Mask -- minimizes signs of aging while removing dead skin cells for a glowing complexion.

4) Benzoyl Peroxide Mask -- kills bacteria, clears up acne and prevents future breakouts.

5) Hyaluronic Acid Mask -- plumps skin cells acting like a sponge that absorbs water 1,000 times it's weight. Great for dry skin.

6) Charcoal Mask -- like a vacuum for your face. Rids it of dirt, impurities, oil, and makeup.

7) Vitamin C Mask -- for a more even skin tone and to brighten up a dull complexion.

Hope you enjoyed all these tips on how to choose the best Face Mask for you! So my Glamazons ... now go out and get Masked!!

Buona Giornata and God Bless the USA!
