DRY SHAMPOO-on the days you want to skip wet shampooing!

DRY SHAMPOO-on the days you want to skip wet shampooing!

Ciao bella,

How many of you remember Psssssst!? the first spray powder dry shampoo from years ago that turned us into believers. This generation thinks you need to wet shampoo your hair everyday. Not so true. Stripping your hair of its natural oils, design coloring, and keratin treatments is expensive. Consider dry shampooing! So what used to be a cleansing hair treatment in hospitals has become a quick beauty secret trick for an instant refresh.

A dry shampoo cleanses with oil absorbers such as starch and volumizes with silica and clay. Using a dry shampoo minimizes damage to your hair since you'll be using hot tools less often. Your color will fade less with minimum salon visits for touch-ups. Your style lasts longer and dry shampooing can puff up limp strands. Dry shampooing also leaves your hair with a fresh just -washed scent!

There are many different brands of dry shampoo. Some specialize in volumizing. Others are best for dark hair. Also portable purse size is convenient. My fav is still Pssssst! and LUSH has a powder form you sprinkle on, fluff through and brush out. So grab some ease of not wet shampooing everyday and try the fluff and go hair magic way!

Buona giornata and God bless the United States of America!

"It's not a mole, it's a beauty mark."--my mom, when I was 12

"It's not a mole, it's a beauty mark."--my mom, when I was 12

Ciao Bella,

Being born American-Italian comes with so many definite facial and body profiles.

I have cousins that can shave their legs on Monday and by Wednesday have porcupine stubble. They have turned to professional waxing which in time may kill some hair roots. The one and only solution for unwanted bodily hair is a professional electrologist--search out one who is highly recommended.

As we all matured into self-conscious teens our dermatologist became our best friend. He always reassured us "it would go away". Prescribing an ointment or an oral treatment he would calm down our facial anxiety!

I was one of the fortunate ones who barely had to shave and always had pretty good teenage skin years.

And as for those "beauty marks" with all the years I was told that's what they were-well I really came to appreciate them in time. I had a light tan one that was quite raised on the top of my shoulder blade. I was truly convinced it was a mark of beauty. Thanks mom! After all Marilyn Monroe had one painted on her lower cheek everyday!

Oh and the curly hair everyone wishes they had! We rolled it up in beer cans, ironed our tresses with the laundry iron ( really got in trouble with mom for that) and reverse perm straightening-all not worth it. Just one humid hour in Florida or anywhere moist and I could watch my hair spring back into it's frizzy coiled state in seconds. Thank goodness now for Keratin relaxing systems. There is the 6 week one and the 6 month one. No more frizzes. Shiny hair with the most remarkable results I have ever experienced!

The food. It's always been a huge part of my childhood. It's always kept me curvy! I had an aunt that would serve my dad a half a chicken when my mom was in the hospital. Feed them whether it was celebratory, sickness, sadness or whatever the reason. There is definitely a solace and a kind of medicinal effect in food. Then off to the gym.

Proud of my culture and all my wonderful relatives with their glorious smiling faces, warm and giving hearts that has made me the woman I am today.

Wishing all my Post Gazette friends and fans a most joyous and blessed Thanksgiving!

Buona giornata and God bless the United States of America!

Keratin Gloves and Socks for Moisture You Must Experience

Keratin Gloves and Socks for Moisture You Must Experience

Ciao bella,

Recently I was looking into how we all can add more moisture into our hands and feet. With old man winter on his way all I see is the ultimate dryness he brings. Between cold, blistering windy days, mechanical heat and wearing more clothes that absorb the moisture from our skin we must fight back!

This is a professional product that was introduced to me through reading my Nails magazine. I decided to try it on myself with amazing results! It is "A Spa in the Palm of Your Hands" that softens luxuriously with Vitamin E, an antioxidant which prevents skin aging and urea for powerful hydration. The nourishing formula of 100 percent vegetable active ingredients will also strengthen your nails with keratin, a fibrous protein that prevents breakage. The Keratin emulsion and vegetable active ingredients will also improve the lifespan of a manicure. After slipping on Keratin gloves a waterless manicure can be performed as well as the Keratin socks by a professional. Should be used in between appointments at home. It's great for everyone in the family who needs moisture.

The Keratin gloves and Socks also contain sanitary ingredients with anti-inflammatory properties.

So, for superior care and moisture start on clean hands and feet. Then gloves/socks should be left on at least 10-15 minutes, if not longer. After Keratin gloves/socks are slipped off massage excess cream into skin until absorbed.

Call me or your professional today for more info on how to experience a Keratin service and also to purchase single applications for at home use. And get soft and smooth.

Buona giornata and God bless the United States of America!

YOUNGER LOOKING EYES NOW!

YOUNGER LOOKING EYES NOW!

Ciao bella,

As Mother Nature takes her toll on our eyes and faces there are just so many "cheats" you can practice to fool someone else's eyes!

Use the real thing by starting off with a very good eye and face cream. Certainly a natural system and not expensive brand is in order. As you all know I am a huge fan of my Skin Care Line - KOSMEA from Australia. Their products are natural, organic - the way nature intended. The New APPLE OF MY EYE CREAM has helped with my under eye problems amazingly! Starting off with a fabulous eye cream is key to keeping your eyes the best they can look. The EIGHTH NATURAL WONDER serum for your face is like a gym in a bottle - helping to tone and even pores and skin tone and minimize fine lines around eyes and face with hibiscus flower extract. Results can be seen immediately!

To create "Younger Looking Eyes" here are a few tips you can practice regularly.

1) Keep your brows in shape by filling in sparse bits and tweezing strays near arch. Use only eyebrow powder (a shade darker than your hair color). Lift up arch. It will be like a mini eye-lift and you'll look more awake.

2) To relieve puffiness pop a teaspoon in the freezer. With back of teaspoon massage swollen areas lightly. Applying moisturizer can plump skin back up.

3) Never use foundation or sparkly shadow on eyes! They tend to show up fine lines and may crease. Only apply primer, which blurs wrinkles.

Primer for your complexion is a must after moisturizer before foundation. You can skip foundation sometimes since Primer hides many imperfections!

4) Dark circles can be magically erased with concealer - a creamy formula to be applied with a brush or pad of your ring finger. Choosing a little lighter than your skin tone is best. A peach tone will neutralize blue circles. A pink tone will neutralize brown ones.

I apply lightly with a brush a very light yellow powder over concealer to brighten eyes - a youthful trick!

So go to your vanity and practice these techniques which work for you for "Younger Looking Eyes"!

Wishing you all a Happy Fall!

Buona giornata and God bless the United States of America!

CHERRY BLOOMS - your eyelash builder, not your ordinary mascara!

CHERRY BLOOMS - your eyelash builder, not your ordinary mascara!

Ciao bella,

I first heard of Cherry Blooms earlier this year. The name really resounded with me. "Cherry" is the nickname of Jellaine Ross who had "blooming" ideas of her own personal and professional growth in her early 20s. She is now the CEO and founder of CHERRY BLOOMS, based in Brisbane, Australia.

This extraordinary product was placed in the VIP gift bags for the Golden Globes and Oscar events. So what's good for those Glamazons is good for me and you!

CHERRY BLOOMS is a three-step product with just two wands that come in a beautiful satin lined box. You first apply the brush on sealer so fibers will adhere. Then apply the brush on fiber eyelash extensions. Finalize with brush on sealer. In 60 seconds you will have the longest, natural looking eyelashes ever experienced! It's a conditioning and healthy alternative. CHERRY BLOOMS remove with warm soap and water -no special remover.

Women's lashes are very enhancing to our faces. There are some gals, due to age, medical treatments and certain medications, who have experienced eyelash loss. Well I'm here to tell you to worry no more. This product will change your life!

Jellaine's mission to bring beauty and style to an innovative marketplace has rivaled the status quo. She was nominated by Cosmopolitan Magazine for Entrepreneur of the year in 2010.

Everyone is raving about her products including Oprah and Ellen Degeneres. Don't settle for copies from other companies. Find CHERRY BLOOMS and ask for your first time discount.

So treat yourself today with some flirty, stunning peepers!

Buona giornata and God bless the United States of America!

Fall Fresh with Lush!

Fall Fresh with Lush!

Ciao bella,

Saying farewell to summer 'til next year is really inevitable and melancholy for some of us! However I always try to look on the bright side, which is enjoying the stunning colors of autumn, a new make up palette, new scents and a good exfoliating treatment from head to toe. After all that sunscreen, pool and salt water and sun our bodies need to be refreshed along with our olfactory sense.

Lush can take care of all those needs with amazing aromatherapy. With a new and fabulous catalog Lush explains its use of natural preservatives to keep products safe longer like using salt, honey and clay. Fairtrade ranks high on the list of products Lush creates. Lush has introduced the world's first certified Fairtrade vanilla absolute.

These products are of high quality and can only be testified with experiencing them!

VANILLARY - is a sweet, sensual jasmine and Fairtrade vanilla absolute perfume.

AFRICAN PARADISE - New product that has become a favorite of mine. A tropical hydration body conditioner applied after showering inspired by all the wonderful ingredients and smells that come from Africa. Delicately scented with carnation, clove and Kalahari melon oil for velvety perfumed skin. Leaves skin soft and fragrant!

PARSLEY PORRIDGE SOAP - these suds will leave your skin squeaky clean. Made with finely ground oatmeal and parsley your skin will thank you.

D'FLUFF - New product that is a self-preserving strawberry and cocoa butter shaving soap for silky smooth skin all over. The scent will send you over the top! Does not make shaving a chore anymore!

The Beauty of the Magical Hamptons!

The Beauty of the Magical Hamptons!

Ciao bella,

There is nothing like getting out of Dodge! As much as I adore my beloved Boston in summer a change of scenery and a mini family reunion is a beautiful thing. My husband David and I always make a fun road trip of the seven-hour journey to the Hamptons. Last time we rented a Mini Cooper convertible. This trip was a sharp, white Ford. It looked money! We stopped at Rein's Deli in Vernon Connecticut for the most fabulous Jewish deli we do not have in Boston. Lox, pastrami sandwiches, chicken liver pâté, kugel and matzoh ball soup galore. All served in an old fashion setting with sundries I haven't seen since I was a child.

The road takes you along in it's mesmerizing stretch as you ponder the time ahead. Approaching the dunes and the beach grass to the Hamptons is quite similar to Provincetown, although the dunes of Provincetown are quite immense like monsters welcoming you to its lair.

The excitement of reaching our destination had arrived. Intuitively my family called as we were minutes away from them. Priceless hugs and warmth greeted us. The great meal we all shared was all quite satisfying! Our hearts were full.

Our hotel changed its name and face from last year. Prettily gussied up in its new blue nautical theme. Our private porch in our room dictated where I was going to spend most of the morning and evening! What a sight to behold! The crash of waves on the foam filled shore made sun-filled days a relaxing respite. Beach umbrellas popped up like mushrooms.

At night the stretch of beach was lined with amazing bon fires and sky lanterns lit up the moon (illegal in Massachusetts). The wood burning smell and salty air raised a smile for the two of us. One night fireworks were set off, it was all so truly magical and will remain forever in my mind beautiful.

Buona giornata and God bless the United States of America!

Cuticle Oil: A Must for Healthy Nails!

Cuticle Oil: A Must for Healthy Nails!

Ciao bella,

I have been practicing Natural Nail-care for over 30 years and quite successfully I may add.

I use cuticle oil after every manicure service religiously. It is an essential part of the manicure. It should also be used daily. You may ask "What is natural nail-care?" From experience it is not not practiced by many nail techs. It is the practice of manicuring the nails while promoting and maintaining natural healthy nail growth. Whether the tech is applying enhancements (tips & wraps preferred) or a polish covering as Shellac, consideration of future nail health should be observed as well as performing a regular manicure.

Using cuticle oil and encouraging its use is mandatory for healthier nails. Massaging the oil into the cuticles and nails stimulates blood circulation promoting and maintaining healthy cuticles and nails. Also when a client is using a nail strengthening polish which tends to "dry" the natural nail while hardening the nail a cuticle oil must be massaged in daily to replenish lost moisture. A nail will harden with a flexibility to bounce back instead of fracturing from dryness while using a nail strengthener and cuticle oil.

Cuticle oil is a very integral part of also keeping the nail polish pliable eliminating brittleness therefor promoting longevity of polish. As for cuticles the oil helps to shrink and tighten preventing hangnails. Cuticle oil was first formulated to meet these needs for flexible coatings and additional moisture.

Many different kinds of oils make up an array of cuticle oils. Vitamin E oil is nature's anti-aging ingredient repairing and preserving skin cells. Jojoba oil penetrates skin's pores preparing skin to accept other important ingredients for moisturizing and healing benefits. Rice bran oil is a well known beauty secret that softens and conditions.

So don't forget to use your cuticle oil to maintain healthy nails and cuticles!

Buona giornata and God bless the United States of America!

Traveling Beautifully Through The Checkpoint!

Traveling Beautifully Through The Checkpoint!

Ciao bella,

These days I've been finding myself traveling by plane quite frequently. Not an easy task when preparing not to check a bag. I lost one set of luggage once on Christmas Eve in Miami and had to find a department store that carried my plus size! Burdick's was similar to Jordan Marsh and I shopped there frequently when I lived in Florida for a stint. Well there were no bathing suits to be bought, the salesgirl told me since it was winter there were none in stock! I creatively made due with a sleeveless swing, lovely black top and black underwear. I did find clothes for the Christmas Eve party and charged it all to the airlines! All I wanted for Christmas that year was my suitcase! It arrived on Christmas Day. I have never checked a bag again! I do enjoy packing all my fav clothes and accessories after all I usually go on a shopping spree just before a trip. However packing your toiletries these days with all the TSA rules is a chore not to be ignored. Here are some tips for a relaxed checkpoint and flight;

  1. Remember TSA's 3-1-1 rule. To be taken in a carry-on bag, all liquids, gels and aerosols must be in 3.4 ounce or smaller containers that fit in a 1 sealed quart size zip-top plastic bag, with only 1 bag per passenger.

  2. Pack your liquids, gels and aerosols separate from other toiletries.

  3. Pack oversize liquids in your checked bag.

  4. You don't have to throw it away-in case you find yourself with an expensive jar of face cream at checkpoint there are kiosks in many airports where you can mail it home or leave checkpoint to find a store that has a smaller container to be placed in your zip-lock bag. Best idea is to purchase regulated 3.4 ounce empty containers at your local beauty store or pharmacy.

I usually will try a very good sample brand of skin care along with my Kosmea Rose Hip Oil (meets TSA Rules) and tuck it in the zip-lock bag.

FYI -- one time traveling to Washington, D.C. a TSA agent wanted to confiscate an important medication cream in a jar and I flipped out. He said he would have it "checked" and finally let it through. I've also noticed the agents "checking" baby formula and certain drinks.

Find out more at www.tsa.gov/traveler-information.

Wishing you all happy and safe travels!

COVER IT UP FLAWLESSLY!

COVER IT UP FLAWLESSLY!

Ciao bella,

After going through my facial experience with covering up my nine "milia" pops I consider myself a cover-up expert! All is healed now and actually the dermatologist who is the best in the city did me a big favor when my visit with him was for something else. Now when I apply foundation my skin looks velvety smooth. I have my favorites, however here are some different kinds of FOUNDATIONS for all you Beauty Queens to look and feel your best.

LIQUID FOUNDATION: a fluid base most popular for most gals; quite weightless on the skin coming in many finishes as sheer and matte; may also contain luminescence; oil free and moisturizing. Can be layered to achieve max coverage. Apply with a foundation brush, fingers or cosmetic sponge.

POWDER FOUNDATION: for a shine-free effect; unless you choose a baked one with luminescent beads; pressed powders give a matte finish; also comes in loose which is great to lightly seal a liquid or cream foundation; apply with powder brush or powder puff.

MINERAL FOUNDATION: so natural with less ingredients the better; made of finely ground minerals; achieves flawless coverage; earth friendly; found loose or pressed; achieves radiant or matte finish; talc free is best; apply with brush.

CREAM FOUNDATION: most moisturizing; a thicker version of liquid foundation; can also be layered to cover-up areas of complexion; best application to use fingers for exceptionally smooth outcome; best for dry skin.

And now my fav: BB CREAM: (Blemish Balm); you do not have to have a blemish to experience the multiple features that enhance a perfect and radiant glow; gives a pore-less look containing a primer base; hides imperfections with velvety results; brightening while evening out skin tone; may also contain sun protection and anti-aging ingredients; use fingers for best application.

AIR BRUSH and AIR FOAM FOUNDATION : spray on air brush gives total coverage; popular in usage to achieve glowing results; air brush is sprayed on at home then finished with make-up brush/fingers or sponge (shake well); Air Foam is a sheer cover; best applied with sponge/fingers.

Always watch your application of all Foundations blending along jawline assuring a smooth and even blend!

So my friends that's the latest scoop on Foundations and the many ways to Cover It Up Flawlessly!

Buona giornata and God bless the United States of America!

Beware the Dermatologist!

Beware the Dermatologist!

Ciao bella,

Just around Christmastime a very good friend of mine snapped a really flattering close-up photo of me. However if I looked really close at the photo I could vaguely see the little white micro pimples I've had on my skin for a few years now. I take very good care of my skin. So I thought. I have another skin condition that brings me to the dermatologist a couple of times a month. So I asked him what these tiny white puffs were on my complexion. He called them "milia." They may go away on their own or I can use my electric needle by popping them and in a few days they will clear up. I really like my dermatologist and he is the best around. However after nine pops I looked like I ate too many strawberries or something allergic! So just a couple of days or maybe a week and all will be fine. Not!

What have I done to deserve this fate of always having near perfect skin to adult acne! After several weeks of changing my skincare that I love -- Kosmea -- and when in South Africa went to the Kiel's counter and purchased a clay cleanser and a cream to reduce irregular skin tone (had to get rid of redness left by needle). Purchased all kinds of deep pore cleansers and a charcoal mask! Incorporating Kosmea back into my regime surely helped the healing. Dermatologist asked me if I was obsessing about my skin. Yes!

I read up on "milia." These white, tiny pimples come from not enough deep cleansing and correct exfoliation like a facial that would prevent clogging pores. Also only use a non pore-clogging sun block on your mug. I was using the tanning oil on my body as well on my complexion which clogged my pores causing "milia!"

After several months of at home skin treatments and, as Dr. J. quoted "tincture of time," my skin has all cleared up and is looking good considering the BIG birthday around the corner!

Make this a lesson my friends. When you do get a facial make it with a professional that practices knowledge of deep pore cleansing and can treat milia, which is quite common. The Dermatologist is obviously great at taking care of your skin not the math!

Buona giornata and God bless the United States of America! Wishing all a Happy & Safe Independence Day

The University of Cosmetology

The University of Cosmetology

Ciao bella,

It was my husband David who brought it to my attention that when he picks me up from the salon and has to wait he has learned something new. I was kind of surprised when I heard that. So he elaborated. The clients and stylists who discuss everything from politics, views from different perspectives on which schools are best, the era they grew up in and the hairstyles from that era they had to abandon to reading the articles from magazines he would only find in a salon. I remember the dean of a local college told me I was getting a better education than most of his students. Leaving home to live on my own and work in a salon (I styled his wife's hair at her home) was the best kind of education since all I was experiencing was not learned from a book.

Your trip to a beauty salon will prove an educational visit. Your interaction with people starting with a pleasant greeting from the receptionist (mine is awesome!) to the shampoo girl who suds you up in massage delight! She may discuss a bit of history or how she will be on the cutting floor next week since she has put in her apprentice hours. In any case it's all good and not what you hear about everyday. The hundreds of professional different products for your hair. Sometimes you can hear a stylist explain which is the best one for you.

From the latest movie reviews to theatre reviews in New York or the latest vacation spot you will hear it all in a salon. Gossip! Not in my shop!

So get educated, learn something new and enjoy a cut and color in your salon today!

To Straighten or Not To Straighten-that is the dilemma!

To Straighten or Not To Straighten-that is the dilemma!

Ciao bella,

I'm sure all of us have their disaster hair stories to tell. From bad haircuts, the wrong color (Sun In), frizzy perms to bad prom hair-dos are just a few of the traumas we experienced!

Well where my Mom was a hair dresser there was lots to play around with. The time I had the mumps my scalp became very sensitive and my extremely curly hair couldn't be brushed. The hair was so tangled she had to cut it all off. I didn't cry however I was traumatized while dear Mom said it was the only solution and she was sorry as she had no choice. I still didn't understand! At least it was a good cut. She also had one of her workers chemically straighten my hair and I just did not know how to style it. I told Mom I was grateful and went on my merry way!

One redeeming quality of hair it does grow back. In the mean time-Patience is a Virtue! Of course that was not the only OMG my hair is gone! That was from zealous Cosmetology students trying to style a "look". It was a look alright!

My Italian curly hair always kept me busy. The blow dryer and a stiff round brush were great discoveries for me. The "ironing" faze was not permitted by Mom! And of course learning how to pull these locks straight into place were important. The years of trying different products to straighten out all strands were not successful. So why not embrace my curly hair which is a bit long now, not so thick so there is more control? I receive many complements on the curves. Not an easy decision when you look in the mirror and I see the Bride of Frankenstein!

I have made a decision this spring thanks to the wonderful products of IMAGEN -a Salon Formula for Latina Hair Care.

I just made my yearly Keratin hair straightening service when IMAGEN arrived at my door. There are six products in this fabulous line for curly hair that is for fine or course locks. I noticed the TEMPORARY STRAIGHTENER that was a shining formula temporarily removing curl and frizz without harsh chemicals. Repeat usage is accumulated and hair curls soften. I cancelled my appointment and used all of the IMAGEN products with great results! No other product has worked so well. So this summer I will not be so straight but will embrace the shine and soft curl of IMAGEN!

You can find it at Target.

Buona Giornata and God bless the U.S.A.

UNRIVALED BEAUTY IS IN CAPE TOWN, SO. AFRICA!

UNRIVALED BEAUTY IS IN CAPE TOWN, SO. AFRICA!

Ciao bella,

"Table Mountain"
When my husband David was invited as a guest to The International Wool Convention to be held in Cape Town he insisted I accompany him. Since he was there a decade ago he always raved of the beauty in this majestic, coastal part of the world. I had to consider the 24 hour plane trip just to get there! How beautiful would I be and feel when we I arrived?

It was all worth it 10 times over!

My eyes feasted on looming, majestic mountains surrounding Cape Town. The people were friendly and sensed great pride to have us there. We were treated like royalty and I truly felt like a queen every day!

The Westin Hotel was magnificent. They have the Arabella Spa with massages and facials and nail care to relieve any jet lag. Aromatherapy filled your soul to revival.

The Travel Desk there with Nuraan and Galiema was most delightful and informative engaging in interesting and fun conversation!

I had three different private drivers during my stay. Everyday each one drove me to one more spectacular, breathtaking view than the other. My favorite was Table Mountain. One of the 7 Wonders of the World. I had read about it and definitely wanted to find it. It didn't take long. It reigns over all of it's glorious city of Cape Town! When there is a fog sometimes it drapes over Table Mountain calling it The Table Cloth!

The Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and Mall was a place you could spend days. Awesome beauty care awaits. Shopping, eating in fine cafes and lounging outdoors on the benches in front of their gigantic flat screen TV. A giant ferris wheel beckons your inner child! Taking tea there as the coastal view swallowed you up.

The African palm trees, the fauna from all over the world with the King Protea as its national flower line the setting of this daunting city.

The stunning vineyards and it's wineries kept all hyped on vino!

We made it to The South-Western tip of Africa. Way up to The Cape of Good Hope! The wow factor was there!

The fiery sunsets over the Atlantic sent me over the top as nothing I have ever seen before.

This is God's Country and the most beautiful sights to behold will stay forever in my heart.

Buona Giornata,

Madam C. J. Walker was the first female American millionaire as an entrepreneur in making facial and hair care products for African-American women in the 1920s

Ciao bella,

Madam C. J. Walker was an amazing woman. She was born Sarah Breedlove on a Louisiana Plantation after the Emancipation from parents who were former slaves. In 1905 she married a St. Louis newspaperman and changed her name to Madam C. J. Walker.

She became interested in hair care in her late 30s when due to damaging hair products and stress caused her hair loss. In order to treat her condition she developed her own formula at home selling it to friends and family and selling it door to door. She built an empire. As quoted by Walker "I am not merely satisfied in making money for myself, for I am endeavoring to provide employment of the women of my race." Her daughter A'Lelia inherited her mother's beauty and hair care empire. And to this day she admires her mother's self taught business skills in order to achieve such great success caring for the needs of African-American women to this day.

Recently on an Antiques Road Show one of Madam C.J. Walker's Beauty Text Books on Beauty Culture was appraised. Being a First Edition the book was appraised at $10,000! Wow!

So if you have an extra $10,000 you can make history too!

Buona Pasqua to all!

NINE NATURALS for Pregnancy and Beyond

NINE NATURALS for Pregnancy and Beyond

Ciao bella,

As a beauty columnist I am always receiving promos from PR Companies. Funny thing here when I first read the headline for this I thought it read "Nine Nails"! Nine Nails which is also a joke from a Robert Benchley jokester! Natural nail-care is my forte! So right off I emailed them back eager to sample their products.

Wonderfully enough the samples arrived and the company name was NINE NATURALS - Beauty Without Compromise for Pregnancy and Beyond! Surprise, surprise!

Beyond is a state where most of my readers and myself are. We will focus on us.

Delightfully scented products filled the air after bathing. The ingredients are pure and simple. These natural products lead us into living a healthier lifestyle. No parabens, no synthetic fragrance, no sulfates, no coal tar dyes, petroleum or formaldehyde. NINE NATURALS products are made with 100 percent plant-based ingredients!

The Citrus + Geranium soothing body wash left my skin feeling soft and not parched like the way most soaps make you feel. The Vanilla + Geranium Belly Butter was used as a moisturizer and smoothed out those pimples on my upper arms! The Citrus + Mint shampoo and conditioner made my hair clean and shiny-the best ever! Good stuff!

Remember all the creams, lotions, soaps and anything you apply to your body is transdermal, so for a natural, healthy, safe lifestyle go to www.ninenaturals.com -- Beauty as nature intended.

Buona giornata and God bless the United States of America! Wishing one and all a happy, healthy New Year for 2014!

Glitter-a Glamazon's Sparkle!

Glitter-a Glamazon's Sparkle!

Ciao bella,

Fancy Dress
In my Disco days I owned a huge palette of Glitter pots in every color! I matched the color of glitter to every outfit I wore for a night of dancing & fun! The glitter was not only for your eyes but for anywhere and everywhere including our hair. Glitter was always all over my apartment and sheets in those days.

I use it to decorate a finger nail for the holidays or a special occasion of fancy dress. Red and green for Christmas. White to represent snow and orange for Halloween! Purple, green and gold for Mardi Gras. A light dusting of gold or pink across the decollate is quite seducing!

Glitter's luminescent and lustrous glow is attractive to the eye wherever it is placed. The reflective flecks of plastic come in varied sizes and shapes. Powdered form as well as in sprays and gel and fragranced lotions are everywhere. I always preferred the tiny micron specks of high quality cut plastic. Deriving from the polyester family rolls of this plastic film are cut to consistency and accuracy of the cut and shape, usually hexagonal. Having the uncanny ability of reflecting light as it shines off the many surfaces of each finely cut speck I rejoice to proudly admit to being a Glitter Queen! In my cosmetic stash I have collected "Tony & Tina" pencil eyeliners in every shade with the micron glitter that enhances my eyes beautifully. Green is my fav. Unfortunately as everywhere in the world of beauty there are creative differences. So with the divorce of Tony & Tiny, their eyeliner and product line no longer exists. Boo-hoo! However micron glitter rules! Quality made succeeds as well.

Our thanks for the invention of glitter go to Henry Ruschmann, a machinist in New Jersey. In 1934 he invented an efficient manner of grinding up plastics into huge amounts of glitter. His company Meadowbrook Inventions is still in business today and one of the famous makers of glitter production! A shining tribute of longevity!

So glam it up gals and put some sparkle in your life with glitter!

Buona giornata and God bless the United States of America! Wishing one and all a happy, healthy New Year for 2014!

Beauty and Brains

Beauty and Brains

Ciao bella,

There are just some things in life you are undoubtedly grateful! When strangers became friends and these friends have been there for you in good and tough times! When teachers who could be teaching at Harvard are teaching you in an Adult Ed class atmosphere. How lucky can you be? This wonderful school to learn it all is The Cambridge Center for Adult Education in Harvard Square.

When I first moved to Beacon Hill almost 23 years ago I came with no friends and barely made any at all within the first years. I spent many afternoons on my apartment's finished roof deck staring out onto The Massachusetts State House and the rushing people below. There were so many people I wanted to meet. I yearned to meet them all! But how?

I attended trade school in Cosmetology. That training was a unique and serious education in itself! I may write a book about it all and how my life is enriched! Making people beautiful, making them feel instantly fab and learning to mix hair color and cutting perimetric shapes was quite satisfying. However I craved to learn how to read Shakespeare, see Opera and discuss it, even poetry and short stories needed to be conquered. Reading "Dante" will hold a special place in my heart. A column for another day!

So one day while I was shopping Harvard Square on the famous Brattle Street there it was a yellow school house with a rich history. I went in and brought home the catalog of brain feasting offerings! It's been a fantastic experience for 20 years meeting many teachers and classmates becoming life long friends!

The classes offered now are cooking in their New kitchen space in The Blacksmith House, languages galore, acting, photography, grammar and a marvelous line up of hundreds of classes of everything under the sun! A New class BEAUTY & THE BRAIN by a Neuroscientist will discuss Beauty and what it is!

So consider taking a class, learn something new and feel smart!

Say hi to Obi & Kevin! They can certainly satisfy your interests!

Buona giornata and God bless the United States of America! Wishing one and all a happy, healthy New Year for 2014!

Bitty Betty Perfumes! Which scent is you?

Bitty Betty Perfumes! Which scent is you?

Ciao bella,

Wearing Her Age Well
Quite unique from the marketing world to sell perfume! It's a "Touch, Try & Buy" perfume line created by ART + SCIENCE, a full-service brand licensing company. For the first time ever you can touch the box to release each Bitty Betty's scent before buying it. This amazing "try me" feature was developed by Celessense Technologies. It consists of a micro encapsulation delivery system that allows for effective scent infusion in print and textiles. With a light touch you may sample fragrance without all the fuss of those spray testers which I personally dislike!

There are four Bitty Betty fragrances available. Each her own personality and scent. The Bettys are reminiscent of World War II pin up girls! Beautiful as they perch on each of their own scent!

BETTY - flirty, fun with red lips is the life of the party! Orange citrus, white tea leaves, hints of Jasmine, rose petal and musk make this gal desirable!

RITA - a fierce warrior with fiery red hair boosts the morales of others while mastering a baton act! Italian bergamot with the subtle aroma of rose, violet and wood make this combo irresistible!

LIBERTY - a classic beauty sailing the high seas with a smile. Mediterranean and citrus with hints of floral will take you away to far away lands.

CINDY - a true cowgirl who enjoys square dancing, BBQ and rolling in the hay! Citrus, passionfruit and berries with undertones of magnolia, freesia, cedar wood and amber will bring out the Wild West in all of us!

So "touch, smell & buy" one or all of Bitty Betty's fragrance and smell it good!

Buona giornata and God bless the United States of America! Wishing one and all a happy, healthy New Year for 2014!

Fabulous. Never better.

Fabulous. Never better.

Ciao bella,

Wearing Her Age Well
Is this your response when asked "How are you?" Why it should be! I realize better than anyone that maintaining our looks and health is a daily challenge! However looking back there has never been such wonderful research and facts on how to keep a positive outlook and health awareness as today.

Read your monthly magazines and get "in the know" on how to cure the blues, cook a new great meal, read a short story that will take you to a new place. Don't wine about the winter weather however look forward to the splendid spring and summer that is just around the corner. New England is really a great place to live! On these winter days cuddle up with that novel you've wanted to read. Clean out a closet or a draw and donate the items you have not used for 5 years. Feel cleansed of the clutter. It truly is a remarkable feeling.

Give yourself a home spa day! Most of what you'll need is in your kitchen!

Try this Strawberry Mask-mash 3 strawberries and apply them to your face for 10 minutes. Rinse your complexion. You will have gently exfoliated your skin while the Vitamin C works to make skin brighter! Looking good is feeling good!

Try this skin-calming "green juice" to depuff- in juicer combine 1 cup pineapple, 1/2 cucumber and a half green apple! Good nutrition leads to healthy, radiant skin!

Learn to meditate. Great exercise for body and mind. Just a few minutes a day can smooth out the wrinkles!

Use your Skincare Regimen diligently. They only work when you use them!

So after following these few renewal tricks, the next time you're asked "How are you?" You can respond. Fabulous. Never better!

Buona giornata and God bless the United States of America! Wishing one and all a happy, healthy New Year for 2014!

Pierced Ears-only please!

Pierced Ears-only please!

Ciao bella,

My parents left it up to me when I acquired the desire to pierce my ears. I was a teen and I decided one day to visit our local Methuen Mall and get my ears pierced. It was an enlightening experience with no fear because I knew in the end I would be able to decorate my ear lobes with complete abandon! And I certainly have! At this point I will never be able to wear all my earrings unless I live to be 90! From 4-inch long Chinese pagodas, to pea size cultured pearls, they fill my jewelry arsenal! Who remembers their ear piercing -- when and how & did they do it against Mom's wishes? I needed to put my thinking cap on for that one. After all it is sort of the first sign of independence, freedom or just a statement especially if it was more than ear piercing. I just remember doing it and then telling my parents knowing they probably wouldn't mind. After all coming from Sicilian decent on Mom's side, babies had their ears pierced in infancy. Mom thought it was great and liked my first gold starter studs! I still have them!

Pierced ears go back to biblical days and Moses. Wearing pierced earring loops was a sign of being a slave in the Bible!

In India when girls pierced their ear lobes it was a symbol of a religious act.

To insure a proper Christian burial sailors wore a pierced earring of gold. Wearing the earring loop of gold indicated they sailed around the world and if perished in lands unknown the earring would insure a proper burial!

These present days pierced ears are for embellishing the ear. In a few years down the road I had each ear lobe pierced with another hole insuring to give the other a rest. In the eighties earrings were long & weighted heavy. I saw too many drooped and split ear lobes in my day & it was not going to happen to me! I also may wear clips now and then as a preventative measure. Getting my first pierced ears were the first sign of growing up to become the glamour gal I proudly am today! So many styles for every mood can make a beautiful outlook with just a few ear bobs to frame your face fashionably so!

Buona giornata and God bless the United States of America! Wishing one and all a happy, healthy New Year for 2014!
