Roya’s Beauty Care

Roya’s Beauty Care

Ciao bella,

Me and Roya
There are so many negatives concerning COVID. However, I’ll tell you of one positive and delightful tale.

I never really liked visiting different salons for my hair care. I just almost never found good luck finding someone to do my hair the way I like. After 25 years living in Boston, on Newbury Street there was one salon I loved.

But their elevator broke and the stairs were steep and that was a problem for me.

So recently there was an ad for Roya … she does house calls to make your coif look special.

It was like a ray of sunshine when she walked in my door! A highly experienced cosmetologist who can service every need from cutting, coloring and keratin treatments. Believe me, I know!

My locks were happy when she blew dry my naturally frizzy, curly hair into a silky satin state of shine.

My husband needed a long overdue haircut and was nick named Beethoven for his length of locks! Roya did a great job just as he asked.

So if you need some Roya Home Beauty, call her at 774-285-9277.

Go out and have some fun!

Buona Giornata and God Bless the USA!

TO THE OLDER, WISER & MORE BEAUTIFUL YOU

TO THE OLDER, WISER & MORE BEAUTIFUL YOU

Ciao bella,

Sophia Loren
I have a brilliant and most creative friend that I have invited as a guest columnist. The subject Aging Gracefully is well at hand. Enjoy!

Recently, my dear friend, Artist and Writer John De Vito, and I discussed the idea of celebrating growing older with grace and style. This inspired him to write the poem TO THE OLDER, WISER & MORE BEAUTIFUL YOU, which I now wish to share with all of you, dear reader. If you’d like to see some of John’s artwork, he is having an art show OSCAR DIVAS WITH A “SPLASH,” October 1st – 31st at GALLERY Z, 167 Market Street, Lowell, Mass. (978-692-5040). The show celebrates several great Academy Award-winning actresses.

Therefore, I feature one of the pieces from the show: Oscar Diva Sophia Loren in the film "TWO WOMEN" (1961). The legendary Ms. Loren is also featured in the poem below.

TO THE OLDER, WISER & MORE BEAUTIFUL YOU

Yes, We’re all Getting Older.
But, That’s Life, isn’t It True?
And besides, whatever else can We Do?

It doesn’t really matter how much
We Might Nip, Lift, Puff, or Tuck-It-All-Up.
The Reality is: With Growing Older, Baby,
We are All Stuck.

O, but don’t You See, That in The End,
It’s All in The Game?
So what really matters is how Well We Play
The Game without Shame.

So then, here’s some Advice, I Give You for Free.
And I Sincerely do Hope, It Helps You
The Way It has Me:

Look to Some Aging Role Model & Let Her Be
Your Guide;
Let her Show You The Way to Stay, Vital, Age
Beautifully, Gracefully & Above All Else, Wise.
Now doesn’t that Make Excellence Sense?

A Trio of Role Models I Think who can Point The Way
Are Three Legendary Actresses.
And All are Classy, Beautiful & Active
to This Very Day:

They’re - SOPHIA LOREN (Age 86),
CATHERINE DENEUVE (Age 77); HELEN
MIRREN (Age 76) - That’s Our Focus.
Clearly, what they all have in Common is,

Beauty, Talent & The Attainment of Tremendous Success.
Going beyond That, It’s Important to Say:
All Three are Europeans,

Deeply Connected to The History & Civility of
The Old World,

Which Means They’re Not So Obsessed with
Looking Forever like a Malibu- Beach-Bunny-Girl.

Yes, They have Grown Older, Stayed Beautiful,
Sexy & kept Making Movies all Along.
And each Woman in Her Own Way,
Has Remained Totally True to Herself &
Awesomely Strong.

While it is True, They’ve had Some “Work” Done,
You Get the Feeling that Most Skillful Work
Happened Not Out in Beverly Hills, but rather,
Under the Radiance of The European Sun.
For there in Europe,

It Seems Plastic Surgeons Look for Inspiration
From Classical- Art The Glory of Antiquity.
Instead of -like here in America-where The Ideal
seems to be a Formaldehyde Pickled Plastic Barbie.

And so, Before I Go, Allow Me to Say
That I Hope I’ve Given You Good Food for Thought,
Hopefully, To Make You Think, Make You Ponder,
To Face The Fiercest Storms &
Fear No Lightening or Thunder.

And so, on Those Nights, You Might Suddenly Rise
To Face The Real Fact That
You’re Growing Older. Please, Do Realize:
Yes, You’re Getting Older, but so what?
You can Still Keep It Classy, Beautiful, Vital, Sexy,
And Above All Else! — Fiercely & Fabulously Wise.

John De Vito

Face Primer ... what is it exactly?

Face Primer ... what is it exactly?

Ciao bella,

I always considered Face Primer to be a secret beauty tip! However, now I must share it with all my Glamazons! It was a marvelous discovery for my make-up chest. Several years ago when I or anyone I knew what Face Primer was I discovered it by accident. I was putting in my Avon order and decided to try this foundation for under your foundation. It was a hit with me! It created a smooth canvas for my foundation. It evened out my complexion minimizing my pores. It actually made the application of foundation easier to apply. My make-up lasted so much longer making my skin look velvety! Wow ... what a find!

There are many Face Primers on the market. I’ve tried many; however, I keep going back to the Avon brand. Hope they still make it. A tube lasts a long time. They come in clear, or a pink & coral shade. Creating a smooth canvas for foundation your Primer will work well in humid and warm weather. Helps make-up to adhere to skin, lasting longer, working as a shield between skincare and make-up. It’s almost like a gauze that you put on a camera lens. Like I said a velvety look!

There are also Primers for eyelashes, eyes, and lips. I’m also familiar with the Lip and Eyelash Primers which keeps lipstick on longer and enriches moisture in your lips. The Eyelash Primer thickens your lashes before applying your mascara. Oh but the job that your Face Primer will do is remarkable!

So go out and get your Face Primer on!

Happy Labor Day!

Buona Giornata and God Bless the USA!

Summer Beauty 2021

Summer Beauty 2021

Ciao bella,

Here we are with a special season of warmth and sun. So much Beauty to capture the special moments. Fresh air is less likely to transmit the pandemic.

We may have to wear masks again, however, there is so much to enjoy and celebrate this fantastic time of year! Summer will be ending soon ... so let’s get it on! The dog days of August with that blazing sun is a natural disinfectant.

I’ve been enjoying outdoors and our Cabana with pool life. Oh, how I’ve missed these fun days … grilling, lounging, tanning, and swimming. (I walk in the pool and fi nd it great exercise) The salt water pool is also a Beauty asset.

It’s been great reconnecting with my Cabanaland friends. All with same woes and discontentment of this pandemic! However, we must focus on the positive aspects of living our best life. The reconnection with people brings Beautiful smiles.

There are so many outdoor activities to do here ... And outdoor dining is all over, better and improved.

Jumping into a car, taxi, or Ride-share and get out of town. Safer outdoor activities than indoor. There are so many different and interesting places to discover. Or an old hang out you used to consider your stomping grounds! I’ve been thinking of Salisbury Beach. I spent so many summers there. Sometimes my parents with grandparents in tow would rent a cottage ... so much fun with the fam. Then my parents invested in an adorable trailer and we would park it at The Salisbury Reservation for almost the whole summer. The meals Mom put out there tasted the best ever. I think it was the healthy, salty, beach air.

As I got older, I would spend several days at a time with my cousin Marilyn whose family owned a beach cottage in Salisbury. Memories we all took for granted. These nights, I fall asleep with all the recollections of those days. The beach sun and the ocean water are really so good for your skin! My cousins also had an awesome outdoor shower!

No phones ... only the pay phone I would have to call my Mom and my boss ... oh, I’m staying an extra day!

Open windows with beautiful breezes. The smell of flowers blooming in the air is hypnotic. A Beautiful sense of reward abounds!

Go out and Relive those memories and capture Summer at its finest Beauty

Annual Pool Bag Necessities 2021

Annual Pool Bag Necessities 2021

Ciao bella,

Summer is finally here! It may be hotter than Hades; however, we must be prepared. Please note that this is my Annual Pool/ Beach Bag review and all you’ll need to make your summer “fun in the sun!”

Here are a few items to keep things going smooth.

1) Sunscreen is number one for protection from the sun. SPF 30 with limited exposure.

2) Hats are great sun protection. Some have sunscreen built in.

3) Water to stay hydrated throughout the day. A frozen water bottle will last the whole afternoon.

4) Sunglasses are a must ... eye protection and fashionable. I must own over 35 pairs!

5) Towels ... I need a few to stay comfortable.

6) Lip Sunscreen for added protection for those kissable lips!

7) A Cover up for after a full session of sun or cool breezes.

8) Towelettes are handy to freshen up! A New product that’s out is “busy Beauty Shower less Body Wipes” Tried and true from me to you! Great after sun bathing for a quick clean feel.

9) Pack of tissues to wipe away whatever!

(10) Hair brush/comb to touch up and refresh the do!

(11) Insect Repellent for the beach bums. I’ve yet to see a mosquito by the pool.

So, hope this review helps in enjoying a great summer.

Happy and safe July 4th to all my colleagues and fans of the Post Gazette! So important to be prepared for lovely summer days.

No stress, just lounging on your lawn chair for fun in the sun

Buona Giornata and God Bless the USA!

Let’s Talk About Redheads!

Let’s Talk About Redheads!

Ciao bella,

Sign at The Max Factor rooms in The Hollywood Museum in LA

I was always a true Brunette. However, as soon as the grays started making their way in I knew I wanted to go Auburn. After all my Nana was a beautiful deep Auburn and I always loved her in that color. Being born into cosmetology was definitely a perk since our choice of hair color and hair style was endless! Looking the Pandemic in the eye I decided to go Red. It makes me feel empowered in a world that had a fading existence within the walls of conformity. So looking into the history of Redheads was quite interesting. Two percent of the world’s population are true Redheads. It’s an anomaly. The Redhead gene has a mutation. These variants are responsible for hair color, freckles, how sensitive you are to hot and cold, how much anesthesia you require (often more than average) and how you smell, which is sweet according to statistics.

Red hair was so rare that the Romans, Greeks, and Christians thought it was the mark of the devil. The variant for Red hair is more common in European populations. Just about 5 percent of Scottish and Irish people have Red hair ... just like our fav Ginger Scot Jamie Fraser from Outlander!

Artists grabbed attention with using Titian-haired women in their portraits. Elizabeth Siddal who was a stunning Redhead served as the muse for Dante Gabriel Rossetti, William Holden Hunt, and John Everette Millais. These certain Pre-Raphaelite artists would often paint Redheads in the nude or as temptresses.

According to 17th century pagans, redheads symbolized magnetism and mysticism. As quoted by Tobias Anthony, author of Ginger Pride: A Redheaded History of the World.

Redheads are not going away. They are here to stay.

So go out and scout out some pretty Gingers today!

Buona Giornata and God Bless the USA!
